bly.fyi

Your job search is already in your inbox.

Bly is a career agent that runs it from there — on your own machine, against your own mail, using the Claude subscription you already pay for. It is software you run, not a service you sign into.

Why it exists

A job search does not live in a tracker. It lives in a hundred threads across months — an approach you meant to answer, a process that went quiet at stage three, a recruiter who has now written twice about two different roles at the same company.

Every tool that tries to fix this asks you to re-enter what your mailbox already knows. Bly does the opposite: it reads the mailbox, and the board falls out of it.

It is named after Nellie Bly, the reporter who went and checked things herself — which is the difference between this and a pattern-matcher.

How it works

  1. It reads what already arrived

Bly mirrors your mail into an append-only log — every recruiter approach, every live process, every thread you forgot you were in. Nothing is fetched twice and nothing is thrown away.

  2. It checks before it judges

A deterministic prefilter runs first and costs nothing. Only plausible candidates reach a model, and only then does it research the company, the role and the person who wrote to you.

  3. It tells you what needs you today

One board, one brief that can't silently drift, and a short list of what has gone quiet or comes due. Reply drafts are written for you to read, edit and send yourself.

What it will not do

These are structural, not settings. An agent reading attacker-controlled email on a personal machine has to be boxed in by what it cannot reach, not by what it is asked nicely to avoid.

  • Never sends anything

Bly writes drafts. A human presses send, every time. There is no configuration that changes this.

  • Never writes to your mailbox

Read-only scopes. No labels, no flags, no folders. Your inbox is a source, not somewhere Bly keeps state.

  • Never overwrites your judgement

Stage, next action, notes and fit are yours. They are recorded as overrides with who and when, and re-derivation reads around them.

  • Never leaves your machine

The mail, the reasoning and the model calls all happen locally. Nothing is phoned home, and no corpus is ever used for training.

Where it runs

Bly runs on your machine. Your mail is read there, the reasoning happens there, and the log and projection are stored there in a local database file you own.

This site is the demo above and the setup guide. Nothing you connect is stored here, because there is nothing here to store it in.

A hosted portal — for reading your board from a phone — is planned and does not exist yet. When it does it will hold the derived board and nothing else: no message bodies, no subjects, no addresses. The reading and the reasoning stay on your machine either way.

Bly uses AI models to read and summarise your mail, and models get things wrong. Treat every verdict, draft and summary as a first pass to check, not a decision that has been made for you.
